The Green Planet ownership team is made up of two life-long hospitality industry leaders. Daniel and Chef Patrick both have 20 years or more in the food service business and specializes in high volume planning and logistics. The event staff is a group of motivated & talented prep-chefs, event managers, and service staff who help us execute flawless events with great care.
Daniel Whittaker started his hospitality career while still in school at The University of Alabama. In 2007 he co-founded Green Planet Catering which has seen steady growth each year and included a range of aggressive, supplemental projects including a sustainable farm-site and biodiesel production facility.
His current projects include: A brand new restaurant, The Pharmacy Cafe, located in a historic pharmacy on N. Person St. in downtown Raleigh. Daniel is redesigning the landscaping at his home to develop a large kitchen garden including an extensive herb garden. He is also working on a private partnership to create a working farm and event venue.
At the beginning of 2011 he started Whittaker Consulting which focuses on consulting work/seminars for companies focused on local food, sustainability, and/or community education. Daniel recently served as the role of International Sales Manager for Feelgoodz, an environmentally conscious foot wear company. Daniel was recently awarded a 40-Under-40 Award, named one of Cary Magazine’s Movers & Shakers for 2015, and has the honor of being named a Green Advocate of the Year from the City of Raleigh. Our Executive Chef Patrick Cowden, who attended New England Culinary Institute, comes to us from long stints as Executive Chef of Tobacco Road Sports Cafe and The Weathervane Restaurant at A Southern Season in Chapel Hill. As a long time resident of the Triangle he has steered the course of such places as Michael Jordan’s 23 Sport Cafe, The Grill at Glen Lennox, Michael Dean’s, Jean Claude’s Café, and his own restaurant Patrick’s Seasonal Cuisine which was located in North Durham.
As a Chef and North Carolina native who is committed to North Carolina products and local producers, he showcases these fine products and farmers on his menus. Patrick has taken part in numerous Farm-to-Fork picnics and was a finalist in the Best Dish of North Carolina sponsored by the Dept. of Agriculture in 2009. This commitment coupled with a passion for exciting Southern inspired cuisine makes Chef Cowden a natural fit for Green Planet Catering and The Pharmacy Cafe.
